Helmut Lang 1998 Runway Pants
Helmut Lang 1998 Runway Pants
An extraordinary item and piece of history that has been loved well for many years.
The Austrian designer broke the model this year in fashion, and for the first time in history, the collection was showcased on the Internet and via CD-ROM. Lang was the first designer ever to do so; the show featured 81 models, including Stefan Armbruster and Kristen Owen, striding across the vast concrete floor.
Lang was known for his minimal, sleek designs and his focus on tailoring, which was a departure from the more ornate and flamboyant fashion of the 1990s. This collection is considered one of his most iconic and influential, as it set the standard for minimal, modern design and helped pave the way for the "less is more" aesthetic that would become popular in the 2000s. Additionally, Lang's use of monochromatic colour palettes and high-quality fabrics, such as cashmere and leather, helped to elevate the notion of minimalism and push it into the realm of luxury fashion. The collection also had a solid androgynous feel, which was ahead of its time and helped to blur traditional gender lines in fashion.
This item features a fully satin outer lining, feeling majestic to the touch and excellent sewing craftsmanship. The item can be worn with cuffed bottoms or extended, depending on sizing. The original hardware and buttons are in excellent condition, and this truly is an archival grail!
